Sports Friends seeks to be a servant resource to Christian leaders in the development of effective, church-centered, youth-focused sports ministries. Sports Friends is a ministry of the multi-national, interdenominational mission, SIM. As such, we affirm SIM’s purpose, core values, and statement of faith.
WHAT SPORTS FRIENDS DOES
Stimulates a vision for local churches and church planters to use the universal language of sports as a powerful ministry tool.
Trains Christian leaders to develop fruitful church-centered sports ministries through Sports Friends' integrated training program.
Equips sports ministers for effective service by providing ongoing support and encouragement to help them live, lead, minister, and coach for the glory of God.
Develops leadership capacity of sports ministry coordinators who will provide vision, guidance, and management of the sports ministry movement within their organizations; and who will develop sports ministers at the local church level.
WHAT MAKES SPORTS FRIENDS UNIQUE
Church Focus. We believe that God’s primary means of relating to and transforming the world is the Church. We are committed to equipping local churches and church planters to use sports as an effective ministry tool.
Church-Planting and Missions. We train and equip church planters and missionaries from around the world to use sports as a tool to break down barriers, build relationships, and share the Gospel.
Relational Evangelism. Sports provide natural opportunities to share the love and Word of God in a non-threatening environment.
Ongoing Ministry. Effective church-centered sports ministry is not an event but a long-term investment in the lives of young people and their families. We seek to equip local churches to develop sustainable evangelistic and discipleship ministries.
Grassroots. Sports Friends’ ministry focuses on sports at the recreational level. It is not for those who seek to become professional athletes, but for those who simply want to play, improve their skills, and have fun.
Multi-Sport. Sports preferences vary among countries and regions. We train sports ministers to use any sport as a bridge to build relationships and to minister effectively.
Leadership Development. At its core, Sports Friends is a training and equipping ministry. Recognizing that ministry rises and falls on leadership, we are committed to identify, train, and equip sports ministry coordinators who will reproduce themselves in local sports ministers.
Incarnational Model. Creating passionate, well-equipped leaders takes time. Sports Friends seeks to enter the lives of local sports ministers in order to mentor, train, and significantly invest in their lives and ministries.
